Other Ministries Supporting the Diocese of Honduras
Honduras Development Network – Developing Honduras that Change Lives
A U.S. based non-profit 501C(3) created to support the efforts of the Diocese of Honduras’ mission of developing Honduras spiritually, socially and economically. In support of this mission, the Right Reverend Lloyd Emmanuel Allen, Bishop of Honduras, believes that the Diocese of Honduras must continue to ‘walk away from its history of dependency’. His vision is to strengthen the infrastructure of the diocese and to move the churches to a self-sustaining position by investing human capital and spiritual capital to focus on sustainable programs.Anglican Honduras Hope is assisting in the development and implementation of these programs, both in the U.S. and in Honduras.
El Hogar- The Home of Love and Hope
El Hogar de Amor Y Esperanza in Tegucigalpa, Honduras is a project that rescues children from a life of hunger and desperation on the streets of Honduras. It enables them to break the cycle of poverty and unemployment by providing them with a home, a nurturing environment, education and a marketable trade.
Founded in 1979, El Hogar gives some 250 Honduran children a loving Christian home and teaches them in three centers. At the Home of Love and Hope, little boys and girls live in a caring environment through sixth grade. They learn to respect and live with others and adapt to discipline and school.
Upon graduation from sixth grade, our boys can choose to attend vocational training at St. Mary’s Technical Institute to become licensed carpenters, welders, or electricians. Or they may continue their education at the Agricultural School and Farm for training in crop management or animal husbandry.
The girls from El Hogar now have their own home and are attending the local public school a short distance from Tegucigalpa. Upon graduation from middle school, we are planning to house the girls in a separate location and provide education and vocational training for them in areas of employment for young women in Honduras.
Individuals, churches or several people have the opportunity to make a difference forever in a child’s life by supporting a child.
Mountain of Hope – Where there’s a need…there is Hope
In 1991, St. Peter’s Church in Lake Mary, Florida, built a church in Quince de Enero, Honduras, from monies donated at home. Thus began a close relationship which has grown through the years.
Over the years, it became evident that yearly missions were not enough to fulfill the health care needs of the villages. They needed a year-round clinic, fully staffed with trained people and supplies. To manage and sustain such a vision, Mountain of Hope was founded in 1998. Through Mountain of Hope–a non-profit corporation*–funds were raise to build a permanent clinic on land donated by the community.
Osman Hope, Inc. – Building Hope for the Children Living in Poverty in Honduras
Osman Hope opened its first shelter in 2002 to help the children of poverty in Honduras. By partnering with local churches we provide shelter, food, medical care and love to the poorest children in the country. We have three shelters that care for 110 children. We also have a daily food program where we provide a lunch and afternoon snack to 60 children. And last we have 22 children in our secondary school scholarship program.
